Jesus the lover of my soul

“THE STEADFAST LOVE OF THE LORD NEVER CEASES; HIS MERCIES NEVER COME
TO AN END; THEY ARE NEW EVERY MORNING; GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS.”
LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23 (Verse on Biblehub)

JESUS, THE LOVER OF MY SOUL

Jesus

At the end of each year, I begin seeking God for the word He wants to use in the new year to breathe spiritual growth into my heart. And each time I hear or read that word, it causes me to pause, reflect, and remember the Lord and what He is doing in my life. I’m not proud of this truth, but sometimes in the midst of the rush of life, I forget to call on the Lord.

This year He gave me two words; Jesus and renewal.

When He first dropped His Name on my heart, I thought to myself, ‘Jesus? That doesn’t make sense. I know He is the embodiment of EVERYTHING.’ So I thought it was just me and I pushed it aside. It wasn’t until two weeks later when He also gave me the word renewal, I realized it was Him Who gave me His sweet Name.

Just hearing His name throughout the year will bring renewal. In fact, I love God chose renewal instead of renew or renewed. Because renewal means ‘the state of being’ made new, fresh and strong again. It’s ongoing. It goes hand in hand with being a work in progress. And as I progress throughout the year in my walk with the Lord, I will be ‘being made’ new, fresh and strong again in Him. I absolutely love that!!

THE LORD LOVES YOU AND ME SO MUCH …

that He gave us His name to call on daily. Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

Did you hear that? EVERY morning!

The Lord’s steadfast (faithful, reliable, true, constant, loyal) love and mercies (compassion, forgiveness, leniency, kindness, tolerance, grace) are new ‘every’ morning. Did you notice ‘mercies’ is plural? He doesn’t give us mercy one time and then He’s done with us. ‘Alright! You had your mercy. Move on. Next!!’

Jesus

I need His mercies and fresh grace every day. 💗

The book of Psalm is full of medicine for our souls.

In Psalm 34:18, we read, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 73:26 reminds me that though my heart and flesh may fail, God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 9:9 “The Lord defends those who suffer. He protects them in times of trouble.”

And I was challenged by one of my recent devotions to say:

“Jesus, I trust you,” every time it feels like things are crashing down on me.

He truly is the lover of my soul. I realize I have nothing, I am nothing and I can do nothing without Him. But, because of Him, I have everything, I am everything and I can do everything. I am His princess.

Life is so full of ups and downs, quite often I feel like I’m on a roller coaster. And those times when it ‘feels’ like the Lord is no where near, I have to hang on with all my might. Thankfully, He never lets go. 💗

There is so much power in the name of Jesus.

So I would like to challenge you to say His Name all through out your day today.

Because He’s got you covered and loves you more then you know.

God bless you and have a wonderful love-filled day!!

Love, Susan Parish

  1. Hello. Here I am 5 years after you posted it, reading it for the first time. I sat down this morning to do my devotion (which honestly is a struggle) and the first question was “what is your favorite passage in the Bible about Jesus”, I don’t like to be asked that question, there are so many, how can you pick one?? I was immediately reminded about (what I thought was in the Bible) verses talking about Jesus being the Lover of my soul. I couldn’t remember where in the Bible it was so I googled “lover of my soul” and on the first page was the scripture Lam. 3:22-23 and this devotion. Wow!!!! Such true words and encouragement you wrote. Another story to share about this is yesterday morning at church we sang “great is Thy faithfulness” which I have sang soooo many times in my life but this time was different. Those words”great is thy faithfulness” spoke to me like never before. The song was in my head the rest of the day into this morning. Now the amazing thing is this morning when I was lead to read that scripture in Laminations searching for lover of my soul, that passage ends with great is thy faithfulness. I gasped, then cried like a flowing river!! He is faithful, merciful, greatly loves me, compassionate, the lover of my soul. We are so very blessed.

    1. Hi Kelly! Oh my gosh! Your reply blessed my heart tremendously!! It made me cry happy tears.
I love how God ministers to us through repeated confirmation. It always puts me in a state of awe.
He is such a caring God that He breathed new life into the song, Great is Thy Faithfulness, for you. That is special. 😊
I’m sitting here today blessed as much as you were yesterday. I’m praying we continue to move forward with our hearts full of joy.
      God bless you. ❤️

  2. My mom always told me to say His name when I was upset. That’s such a good habit to get into!!! Every time life gets hard, we whisper Jesus into our soul 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful year of renewal!

  3. I love this, Susan. His Name is so, so precious. You are right – just thinking about and saying His Name – it just makes Him seem so near, and His peace is just about tangible in those moments. Thanks so much for a timely reminder! 🙂

    1. Hi Kate, I’m delighted it was a timely reminder for you.💗 I kept praying and asking God what he’d like me to write about and I just kept getting ‘Jesus, lover of my Soul.’ I wasn’t sure what I was going to write after that, but when I sat down to write, it flowed. I must remember that everything is all about him … Jesus. We can’t help but grow when we put Him first. God bless you!💗

  4. When you stop to think about it – that one word is everything we will ever need. Wonderful reminder for us all!

    1. Thank you Eryn! God’s working on me in the area of ‘one day at a time,’ and being satisfied with ‘this’ day. His mercies are new every day, give us this day our daily bread, this is the day You have made I’ll rejoice and be glad in it are a few of the scriptures He’s laid on my heart. 💗

  17. This was beautifully written, and I am thankful you shared your heart! I love saying Jesus I trust you! I will challenge myself to begin saying this. My word for 2018 is Unashamed. I have been saying this in many situations and it has changed my daily mindset. Thanks again for the encouraging word!

    1. Thank you Emily! I love that as well and the freedom we have in His name. 💗 I hope you are having a very blessed day.

  20. Amen Jesus is all we need. My work is see and my verse is Isaiah 43:17-19

    1. I love Isaiah! What’s your favorite version of this scripture? God gave me Isaiah 43:18-19 at the end of 2014 knowing I would have to leave the home I lived in for ten years, in April of 2015. I was devastated!! He has been so true to His word of doing something new, making a roadway in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Most of it in my own heart. It was in these years of wilderness that He proved His love for me. I’m not going to water it down, it hurt!! But now I know that I ‘know’ that I KNOW, He loves ‘ME.’ No matter how much the enemy attacks me, I have confidence in God’s love for me.💗 I’m so grateful. 💗
