“So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27
God lovingly created us with His own two hands in our mother’s womb.
With excellence and great purpose, He intentionally fashioned us for Himself in His own image.
So why are we so dang hard on ourselves? We are our own worst enemies, aren’t we?
The mistakes we made yesterday? We are still beating ourselves up for today. And before today is even half over, the enemy starts to pile on new condemnation. We can’t seem to say or do anything right.
When we look into a mirror, some of us lower our eyes in shame and others of us immediately start to search out every flaw.
Do we not know that when we received Jesus, we were literally ‘clothed’ in Him?
Yes, at the moment of salvation, we gave Him our dirty rags and He wrapped us in His robe of righteousness.
“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Galatians 3:27 NIV
The NLT version says “And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.”
We will make mistakes everyday that we live on this earth because we are human. But those mistakes are not who we are. Our identity is in Christ, not in what we can or cannot do. So when mistakes happen, and they will, we shouldn’t punish ourselves mercilessly. Even more, we shouldn’t loathe who we see when we look into the mirror.
Jesus is a ‘chin lifter’. He gently encourages us to look up at Him, not down! We will never hear the words “Shame on you!” come from His lips. If we hear those words from others or if those words rise up from the inside of us, we can be certain they are from the enemy. Never Jesus.
When we make a mistake and feel the Holy Spirit convict us, lets not be afraid to approach God immediately and repent from our hearts. Receive His mercy and forgiveness and then we must FORGIVE OURSELVES. Don’t miss that crucial step, sweet sister! LET YOURSELF OFF THE PROVERBIAL HOOK! Because if you keep yourself hanging from your own hook, you cannot and will not move forward. Then stand up and run your race, clothed in Christ. Wrapped in His love and His dignity.
Walk free knowing that the enemy has nothing on you. A ‘mistake’ doesn’t mean you’ve taken Jesus off and put your dirty rags back on. Those dirty rags are gone forever! A mistake is just that. A mistake. It is not who you are.
Today, when you look into the mirror, ask the Lord to help you see yourself through His eyes. Then humbly receive what He says in your heart and start to speak it out with your lips.
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” Proverbs 31:25 NLT
Much love to you ….
