HER CHILDREN ARISE AND CALL HER BLESSED;
HER HUSBAND ALSO, AND HE PRAISES HER.
Proverbs 31:28 (Verse on Bible Hub)
MOTHERHOOD
You were chosen by God to be your child’s mother.
AND HE NEVER MAKES MISTAKES! ❤
This Mother’s Day, I am reflecting how blessed I have been to have my two loving Daughters in my life. Motherhood is sweet. I can’t imagine my life without them. Both girls are Heaven’s greatest gifts to my husband and I.
All the sweet memories of reading bedtime stories together, playing at the park, waking up on Christmas Mornings, watching them grow into the ladies they are today … they are irreplaceable.
But at the same time, I am so aware that Mother’s Day can evoke pain in a lot of hearts, too.
Being a Mom isn’t always easy …
I have several friends who are experiencing the heartbreak of a fallout with one of their grown children right now. For one reason or another, the child has decided to sever the relationship with their mother. I am praying for anyone who is reading this and is experiencing the very same thing right now.
I know that just like in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32, you are searching the horizon everyday for your child to return and are ready to receive them back. God feels your heart and is so with you this Mother’s Day.
I also wanted to speak to anyone who is experiencing deep regrets for any mistakes you feel you may have made in motherhood. I recently sat with a friend who was completely broken with regret over mistakes she had made with her son when he was younger.
Motherhood can be challenging …
But regret is a cruel and smothering spirit.
You can’t go back and change anything. However, you can decide to invest your energy into changing the now so the future can be better.
If you are experiencing any kind of regret, I want to gently ask you to join me at the foot of the cross and let’s lay this thing down together.
God has a tender spot for us Mothers.
God knows your heart and He knows you gave 200% and did the best with what you had at the time. If there is something you need to apologize to your kids for, please do so.
But you cannot look at how far you’ve come now and beat the younger you up. Please let her off the hook. God is kinder to her than you have ever been. Let’s show the younger you some grace this Mother’s Day and forgive her.
Being a Mom helps us to grow in grace …
Everyday with Jesus, we grow more and more in His grace. Our identity in Him is strengthened and we learn that we are loved, chosen and adopted. We discover that we were never a mistake or an accident. God tells us in Isaiah 43:1 that He has called us by name and we are His. Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that before we were even born, God knew us and set us apart.
In the same way, He has specifically chosen you to be your child’s mother.
And God doesn’t make mistakes.
Psalm 139:16 tells us that every single one of our days was ordained and written in His book before they came to be. This includes your journey as a mother. And subsequently, your child’s destiny to be raised and loved their whole lives by you also.
No one else can be the mom to your child that you are. No one can know, love, understand or pray for your child the way that you were designed to. You are partnering with God, Who Himself knows, loves, and understands your child even more than you do! No matter how old your child is, remember you are hand selected by God to join with Him in your journey as a Mom.
Motherhood gives us an opportunity to speak into the lives of others …
We don’t realize as Moms just how powerful our prayers are. Our prayers are being recorded in Heaven and can reach beyond our children to the grandchildren that we have not even met yet. Exodus 20:6 promises that God will love your offspring to a thousand generations because you love Him. In Isaiah 54:13 we find the awesome promise that our children will be taught by the Lord and great will be their peace. Psalm 112:2 encourages us as Moms that our children will be blessed by God.
Even if you are experiencing rejection right now and are mothering by faith, please find rest in knowing that you are not alone. God is with you in this and He has not lost your child. I am praying for your heart to trust in Him today.
A Prayer of Blessings for *ALL* Moms today …
Father God, we lift ALL our beautiful mothers up to you, Lord.
Jesus, bless the Working Mom who keeps many plates spinning and struggles to find time for herself. And bless the Stay at Home Mom who feels alone and hasn’t had an adult conversation in many months!
Bless and strengthen the Mom who has lost her sweet child to an illness or accident and is hurting this Mother’s Day. And bless the Single Mom who is struggling to provide and be everything her children needs.
Lord, bless the Step Mom who has opened her heart to love her husband’s children as her own. And bless the Adoptive Mom who is the epitome and picture of how You, God, have chosen and loved us on purpose!
Papa God, bless the Mom of very young children who hasn’t had a shower in days and doesn’t know if she is coming or going half the time! And the Mom who is raising and home schooling her children and needs the sun to stand still for just a few more moments!
Bless the Mom with the newly emptied nest and needs Your guidance and direction today! Additionally, the Grandmother who has taken on the role as caretaker of her Grandbabies.
Lord, You are so good …
Lord, bless the Mom who is desperately searching the horizon for her prodigal child to come up over that hill. And the Mom who feels like she failed. Encourage her that You called her to love, not to be perfect.
God, bless the childless Mom who is experiencing the agonizing emotional exhaustion of another fertility treatment. And comfort the sweet Lady who has realized the treatments aren’t working and needs Your Love to fill the emptiness right now.
Bless and heal the body of the sick Mom who is not ready to leave her children behind. And the young Mom who chose to be brave and not go through with the abortion.
Thank You Lord for the Spiritual Moms who step in to fill the incredible void and pray over us, like the lovely lady that God brought into my life! And bless the Dad who has to be both Mom and Dad in this season of his life.
And Lord … we pray that You would rescue any Mom who is living in an abusive situation right now!
For each and everyone of you ladies, we cover you in prayer and ask Lord Jesus to pour a special blessing over you right now! Holy Spirit, give them an extra measure of Your Grace today!
Help them to know and feel Your strength, love and provision and to know You are with them in their personal journey.
Bless them Lord, show them Your favor, and may Your face shine upon them and fill their hearts with Your Peace!
In Jesus’ Name we pray this. Amen

So beautiful, Donna. What life-giving words you give to us moms on our worst days. I so appreciate the grace of God you communicate to us! xoxo
Katie thank you for your sweet response! Happy Mother’s Day to you! 😘
Thanks for sharing. I think this post can go beyond motherhood and speak to those of us who are not mothers (which I am obviously not!). We definitely can experience a sense of regret or wondering if God has made a mistake about us in general. I think it might even be worth re-purposing this post and creating an additional version for a wider audience otherwise people could easily overlook it as they might think it’s only about mothers.
Thank you for stopping by today! My post was strategically written for all mothers on Mother’s Day! It wasn’t a mistake … 😊
Thank-you for this encouragement! I have always felt so privileged to be chosen by God to be the mother of the three precious souls He entrusted to me. They are treasures! I think my long battle with infertility really helped me put it all in perspective when He did bless me with children!
Love this Esther!! They sure are treasures!!! You are a blessed woman! ❤
Indeed!
I really enjoyed this. I’m not a mother yet, but I enjoyed reading and thinking about what I hope I will be like when I am a mother. Thank you for your post!
Awe thank you so much for stopping by today Yaerli!! Bless you!! You will be an awesome Mom someday!! ❤
Good piece of encouragement and conviction, Donna! I especially loved the line where you said, “If there is something you need to apologize to your kids for, please do so.” Although my parents didn’t screw up in some of the major ways a parent can, they were still imperfect people who made mistakes. I always respected them when they came to me after a moment of conviction in their parenting to apologize. I think parents can feel like it’s too humbling to say “I’m sorry” or that your child may look down on you, but the opposite is actually true! Even though my husband and I aren’t parents yet, we have talked through this issue and both agree that when we slip-up with our kids, the best policy is to say “I’m sorry” and ask for their forgiveness.
So true! I love that! Thank you so much for your sweet response, Sarah Anne! ❤
Donna this is the most encouraging Mother’s Day article I’ve ever read!!!! Amazing, fantastic… inspired! ♥️ Many times the message is so short-sighted and for only certain women who are in a specific season in their life, and the day bring more pain than the blessing it was intended to. Thank you for writing this and for your heart of compassion for other women.
Tami thank you so much for your encouragement this morning! You bless me always! ❤
Beautiful post Donna! Thank you for your genuine compassion for all women and blessing us moms and grandmas with your kind words. God gave me the promise of Isaiah 54:13 “our children will be taught by the Lord and great will be their peace” years ago and I have it hanging in my room. I’ve missed you. 💗
Thank you so much Susan! Miss you too! ❤
Wonderful post. I think every mother has some regrets, even if her children aren’t adults yet. But it’s true, asking for forgiveness is powerful, especially for children! It gives them a wonderful example to follow and shows them that even adults make mistakes. Thanks so much for writing this. <3
So true! Thank you for stopping by and reading my post, Heather! Blessings … ❤
Your posts are so encouraging! I’m glad to hear about concerns for parents with grown kids too. I am training to that end now anyway. Thanks for the encouragement!!
Bless you Netta! ❤ Thank you for your kind words!
Wise and loving words, my friend! I’ve also been praying for those who desire to be moms (or are moms) and have suffered loss. May all moms experience comfort from God’s presence this Mother’s Day. <3
Thank you Nikole! ❤
I can only imagine how this feels given I am not a mom. I have a deep respect for moms….it is one of the most joyful and heart wrenching thing at times! You are all in the trenches and showing up every day and that takes so much courage! My hat goes off to you and I honor you!
Thank you sweet Dewi!! ❤
Very encouraging. Thank you so much for the inspirational post!
