Praying Scriptures to Push Back the Spiritual Darkness in our Nation

There has been so much division in our Country. As Christians, we should not be fighting as the world does. We know who our real enemy is and it is never people. This battle is a spiritual one. Let’s join together in unity and humility to lift up our praises to God with one voice. Let’s invite God into the middle of the spiritual darkness in our Country and ask for His protection and for His will to be done. Our Nation needs revival like never before. Please join me in praying and declaring God’s Word over our Nation.

The prayer below has a few words of my own but it is mostly all Scripture. When we pray Scriptures to push back the darkness in our nation, we can be bold and have full confidence that we are praying God’s will. (1 John 5:14) promises us “This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” And Isaiah 55:11 promises every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth will never return to Him void but will accomplish His purposes. 

These verses speak to God’s Glory and Sovereignty, the promises and protection we have in Christ as Children of God, petitions for His help to stay focused and not stray, and mostly how the darkness will never overcome God’s Light. Let’s declare His Word together and ask God to push back the darkness …

Praying Scriptures to Push Back the Spiritual Darkness in our Nation

Heavenly Father, we are so grateful for You, LORD! You are our God and above You there is NO other! Have mercy on us and forgive us our sin. You promised if we, who are called by Your Name, will humble ourselves and pray and seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways, then You will hear from Heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land. (2 Cron 7:14)

LORD, we pray Your life giving Words over our Nation today. The unfolding of your Words bring light and understanding. (Ps 119:130)

You, Lord, have established Your throne in Heaven, and Your Kingdom rules over all. (Psalm 103:19)

There is no one holy like You, LORD. There is no one besides You, nor is there any Rock like our God. (1 Sam 2:2)

We acknowledge this and keep it firmly in our minds: You, LORD, are God, both in Heaven and on earth, and there is no one else like You. (Deut 4:39)

May Your Kingdom come, Lord. May Your will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven. (Matt 6:10)

We were once filled with darkness, but now You have made us a light in You, Lord; help us to walk as children of Light. (Eph 5:8)

Help us to keep praying in the Spirit on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers. Help us to be alert and always pray for all of the Lord’s people. (Eph 6:18)

LORD, You are the fountain of life; in Your Light we can see light. (Ps 36:9) 

The hour has already come for us to wake up from our slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:11-12)

For we are children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. (1 Thess 5:5)

For You, God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. (2 Cor 4:6-7)

Help us to live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. (Eph 5:2)

You, Lord, are our light and our salvation; Whom shall we fear? You, Lord, are the stronghold of our lives; of whom shall we be afraid? (Ps 27:1)

You have delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of Your beloved Son. (Col 1:13)

We will not be afraid of those who threaten us. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. What You tell us now in the darkness, we will shout abroad when daybreak comes. What You whisper in our ear, we will shout from the housetops for all to hear! We will not be afraid of those who want to kill our bodies; they cannot touch our souls. We will fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matt 10:26-28) 

You cause wars to cease to the ends of the earth. You break the bow and shatter the spear and You burn the shields with fire. We will be still, and know that You are GOD; You will be exalted among the nations, You will be exalted in the earth.” (Ps 46:9-10)

We will not be afraid. We will stand firm and we will see the deliverance the LORD will bring us today. The enemy we see today, we will never see again. The LORD will fight for us; we need only to be still. (Ex 14:13-14)

No weapon forged against us will prevail, and we will refute every tongue that accuses us. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from YOU,” declares the LORD. (Isaiah 54:17)

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Eph 6:12)

And You will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known You will guide them. You will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things You do, and You do not forsake them. (Isa 42:16)

Jesus, You came into this world as LIGHT, so that whoever believes in You may not remain in darkness. (John 12:46)

Jesus, You Yourself ARE the Light of this world; those who follow You will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life. (John 8:12)

Your light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has NEVER overcome it. (John 1:5)

For it is YOU Who lights my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness. (Ps 18:28)

And Your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. (Ps 119:105)

This is the message we have heard from You and proclaim to everyone, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)

Father God, we intercede on behalf of those who have been blinded by the enemy. The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble. (Prov 4:19)

Satan has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Cor 4:4)

Father, Your Word says ‘how horrible it will be for those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn what is bitter into something sweet and what is sweet into something bitter.’ (Isaiah 5:20)

Father, this is happening right now in our Country. Please have mercy on us. Shine Your light into this deep darkness. 

Nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. (Luke 8:17)

For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. (Mark 4:22)

Even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. (Ps 139:12)

Lord, we pray the people who walk in darkness will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them. (Isaiah 9:2)

Lord, shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death and guide their feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:79)

Open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in You, Jesus. (Acts 26:18)

The people who are sitting in darkness will see a great Light, and those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, upon them Your Light has dawned. (Matt 4:16)

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. (James 1:17)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. We will not be carried away by all kinds of false teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by Your Grace. (Hebrews 13:8-9)

We will not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD our GOD goes with us; He will never leave us nor forsake us! (Deut 31:6)

Finally, as we are praying these Scriptures to push back the darkness in our nation, help us to trust in You LORD. We put our confidence in YOU, not in ourselves. We receive Your promise that if we trust in You, we will be like trees planted by the water that send out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

We will not be afraid the darkness will get darker for us because You said the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until that full day. (Prov 4:18) We will trust in You, LORD. Today is the day of salvation. (2 Cor 6:2)
