“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will
guide you into all the truth. He will not speak
on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and
he will tell you what is yet to come. He will
glorify me because it is from me that he will
receive what he will make known to you.”

School of the Spirit – Living the Holy Spirit Empowered Life | Book Review and Giveaway
People tend to avoid what they feel they cannot control, wouldn’t you agree? Some Christians shy away from the Holy Spirit because they don’t understand Him. They might think He is spooky or they don’t know who He really is or what He might do in their life. But without the Holy Spirit, we will lead a very powerless and defeated Christian life. This was never Jesus’ heart or plan for us! But if we will let the Holy Spirit into our lives, He will come with all His power and change us forever.
If we trust Jesus, then we can trust the Holy Spirit too.
In School of the Spirit: Living the Holy Spirit-Empowered Life with Study Guide (Gateway, coming October 1, 2021), Pastor Lee Cummings encourages all Believers to get to know the Holy Spirit, the most misunderstood Person of the Trinity. He illuminates biblical truths in a clear, easy-to-understand way and answers many common questions, such as:
1. Who is the Holy Spirit?
2. What did Jesus say about Him?
3. What does a Spirit-empowered life look like?
4. What are the nine gifts of the Spirit? What are their benefits?
Here is an excerpt from this wonderful book:
“Do not read and study the Bible as a means to offer God mere intellectual assent nor to gain more academic information. Knowledge alone will puff us up with pride, ultimately leaving us spiritually dissatisfied. Rather, studying the Bible should help us to hear the Holy Spirit more clearly. Information that doesn’t bring about transformation is only useful if you’re playing a game of Bible trivia.
True transformation will develop a deep hunger within you to encounter the living God through the Person of the Holy Spirit. God is not sitting far away in the unreachable heavens, saying, “I gave you a Book, so read it, and I’ll get back with you in a couple millennia to talk more about it.” No, He is saying, “I have provided this Book because I want to reveal Myself to you. I want to walk with you and make you aware of My Spirit I have put within you. I want to awaken you to the power available through Him so you can be an effective witness to the world.”
Each chapter in School of the Spirit includes a study guide that can be done on your own or in a group.
This book is formatted in the style of a college course. Each section has it’s own course number, just like you would see in a college catalog (e.g., 101, 201, and 301). The author follows a planned progression in each section to help the reader learn about the Holy Spirit so they can develop their own relationship with Him. What is cool is there is not a section named ‘School of the Spirit 401’ because there’s no graduation from this school until we get to heaven, amen? The author’s prayer is that the reader, after finishing this book, will continue to grow and develop their relationship with the Holy Spirit throughout their entire life.
I like to include the table of contents with my book reviews so you can take a little peek inside the cover. Whenever I’m about to dig into a new book myself, the table of contents is usually my first stop so I know what to expect in the pages ahead.

I’m officially putting this on my must-read list! Plugging into the Power is vital, but it’s so easy to get caught up in living by our own strength!
It really is. I need the Holy Spirit to remind me whenever I start living in my own strength! I can’t imagine not having the Spirit inside me at all and no one to redirect me when I get off course … 🙏❤
This sounds like an amazing book! I have been reading through the Bible for the first time cover to cover and I can attest to the fact that I can hear the Holy Spirit more clearly now than ever before.
