I will praise God’s name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving. Ps 69:30 NIV

Gates of HeavenHello friend!🌻This Bible Verse was written by the Psalmist David and we see from it that a heart of thanksgiving brings glory to our Heavenly Father. I can imagine that his heart of gratitude was just one of the many reasons God called David a man after His own heart.

I love the Autumn Season and its focus on cultivating a thankful heart towards God for all our blessings, don’t you?

I pray these verses will fill us with a fresh hope and perspective, a sweet and healthy desire to begin cultivating a thankful heart towards God, not just this Thanksgiving but the whole year through.

Bible Verses that Encourage us to Give Thanks to God:

(All verses in NIV translation unless noted otherwise)

God is so good and deserving of us learning to cultivate a grateful heart for Him, don’t you agree? I love how some of these verses spell out specific reasons to give thanks to our wonderful LORD!

  • Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lam 3:22-23
  • But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:57
  • HeavenBut thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. 2 Cor 2:14
  • Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the GOD of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the LORD of lords: His love endures forever. Ps 136:1-3
  • Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. Ps 100:4
  • Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess 5:16-18
  • Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In His hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him. The sea is His, for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land. Ps 95:1-5
  • So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Col 2:6-7
  • Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. Heb 12:28

Bible Verses that Exhort us to Live in Peace with other Believers:

When we come together in unity, we become a collective force to be reckoned with by the enemy. There is safety, growth, joy and peace to be found when we come together in unity with Christ …

  • ChristLet the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Col 3:15-17
  • Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph 5:15-20

Bible Verses that Strengthen our Resolve as we Cultivate a Thankful Heart:

From the beautiful sunrise to the warmth of the sun on our skin to the tiny little flowers that line the edge of the sidewalk, God desires to romance our hearts every day and it brings Him great joy when we take notice …

  • Woman praising GodI will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds. Ps 9:1
  • It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night. Ps 92:1-2
  • I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High. Ps 7:17
  • Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess His name. Heb 13:15
  • From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained. Jer 30:19
  • This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Ps 118:24 NKJV
  • I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. Ps 89:1-2
  • Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Col 4:2

Bible Verses that Point to the Blessings of a Thankful Heart:

This past decade, my hubby and I have been intentional to cultivate a heart filled with gratitude. It still requires intention and refocusing when I catch myself in a spiraling thought process, but this shift in perspective has taught me that a heart of gratitude will fill me with hope, help me to stay focused on God, lightens my day and lifts me up above the enemies reach.

  • ChristPraise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. Ps 103:1-4
  • All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Cor 4:15-16
  • Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:4-7
  • Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind, for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Ps 107:8-9
  • The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. Num 6:24-26
  • The Lord is my Strength and my Shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him. Ps 28:7
  • You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Cor 9:11

I hope you have found encouragement and hope here today. We wish you and your loved ones a very blessed Thanksgiving! Please let us know in the comments what you are thankful for in this current season you are in. We are praying for you always! God is so good, amen?
