The Joy of Being Mom – by Judy Brisky

Can we really find joy in being a mom for more than just certain moments?

"The Joy of Being Mom" Book Review and Giveaway

The answer is a resounding YES! Judy Brisky’s newly published book, The Joy of Being Mom, is for any mom who wants to know where the joy is in her struggles and may just need some reassurance.

Despite those demanding situations that arise in motherhood, you can experience the joy of being a mom every single day. Even in the toughest of situations!

But to be able to experience this kind of joy, you will first need wisdom and perspective that can only come from the LORD. Then you will discover you don’t have to seek out joy anymore because it will flow from deep within you. Yes, you’ll still get tired and feel the pressures, but you’ll also be filled with much deep joy as you seek God’s heart for you and your children!

Judy Brisky is very relatable and transparent!

I wanted to share some of her words with you here. This is an excerpt from the first few paragraphs in the introduction:

Dear Lord, I’m falling apart.

The boys were having a hard time sleeping last night, and I thought I was going to go crazy. Really! I lose my temper all the time with the slightest thing. I’m always yelling, always raising my voice. I don’t want to be like that. I don’t want my kids to remember their mother as someone who was always angry, always yelling. I don’t know what to do. Potty training? Ha! Jacob couldn’t care less, and I don’t have the umph to get things going.

What a mess I’ve made of my family. I’m so overwhelmed with so much to do at home. When am I supposed to clean with two little ones at my feet? Please help me. I feel so out of control. I want the house to look nice and clean and I want to feel better organized about my family. I want to be more loving. Please, please help me. (A tough day in 1997)

What exhausted, frazzled mom wrote this journal entry?

I have to confess—it was me. Your next thought may be, How could the same woman possibly write a book about motherhood and joy? Well, first let me assure you that I did eventually potty train Jacob, as well as his brother, Joel. And there were even bigger changes:

  1. I learned to stop yelling.
  2. I discovered the importance of teaching and training.
  3. I stopped feeling overwhelmed all the time.
  4. I learned to trust the Lord and not worry about every little thing.

Keeping the house organized and clean became something I absolutely love.

Yes, really.

(Except for toilets—those are still not my favorite). My home looks nice and tidy more often than not. And if you ask my family, they will tell you that my prayer to become more loving was answered too. I am incredibly blessed and grateful to be married to my husband, Michael (Mike). We are 30 years strong! Our sons, Jacob and Joel, are now grown and married, and I love the close relationships I have with them and my daughters-in-love, Neeli and Danny.

I also have such a great relationship with my dad, and he lives with Michael and me. How did I turn things around? How did I go from being a loud and crazy mom to a not-so-loud but way more fun mom? The answer is simple—I prayed and asked God to help me. I read His Word. And once I started doing those things, I didn’t stop. I made God the center of my life, my marriage, and my parenting.

Judy Brisky has a heart of gold for moms of all ages. As a mother of two adult sons and two daughters-in-love, she shares from her motherhood journey that hasn’t always been easy. She has experienced the heartache of miscarriage and infant loss, along with fearing motherhood.

Some of her fear was amplified as she traveled with their children and her husband Mike of 30 years as he was on the PGA TOUR as a professional golfer. She really wants to help moms uncover what she has – joy in motherhood and where it comes from.

Mike and Judy are well connected at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas where Mike is the Executive Pastor to the Senior Pastor, Robert Morris. For more than a decade now, Judy has enjoyed teaching and speaking on marriage, parenting, and all things Jesus. You can find out more about Judy or ways to connect with her on

  1. Unfortunately, I’m not based in the US 🙁

    But that’s all good 😀

I think the greatest joy of being a mom is being able to cast ALL cares on Jesus – knowing you are not alone 🙂

Then watching your children grow in Him – just as you grow in Him.

    1. Thank you for responding! I agree! We are definitely partnering with Jesus in our motherhood journey!! Never alone … ❤

  2. I am not based in the US, sob 🙁

    But it’s all good 😀

I think the greatest thing about being a mom(to-be) would be having to cast ALL cares on Jesus – and learning from Him daily.

I honestly don’t know how I would navigate life – much less motherhood – without Him.

I can’t wait to read your book. Well done!
