I Love You, Mom: Cherished Word Gifts From My Heart To Yours
By Blythe Daniel and Helen McIntosh
This book right here might just be the sweetest book I’ve ever done a book review on! I Love You, Mom is a special gift for moms, daughters and anyone who has filled those roles in your life. It makes a great any-occasion, “just because I love you” gift, but would definitely make an awesome book to give as a sweet, heartfelt gift this Mother’s Day!
This book was written by the mother and daughter duo, Helen McIntosh and Blythe Daniel. God restored Helen and Blythe’s relationship and together, they wrote and released the beautiful book titled Mended: Restoring the Hearts of Mother and Daughters in 2019. Now, they have paired up again for I Love You, Mom: Cherished Word Gifts from My Heart to Yours.
If you are a mother, you will be encouraged as you read sweet devotionals with examples of biblical moms as well. I Love You, Mom: Cherished Word Gifts from My Heart to Yours is filled with the sweetest and warmest sentiments for mothers and daughters to share. As well as Scripture-inspired devotions that offer insights and promises from God’s Word.
A friend recently described this book as a super charged greeting card, and I completely agree! The graphics themselves are so beautiful, but so are all the Bible Verses and heartfelt words. It takes many more pages, than what is found in a typical greeting card, to express the love and thanks for what moms have meant to their families, amen?
Inside this hardback, cheerful, full-color book, you will find tokens of love like, “Have you ever considered that if you look at the word mom upside down it spells wow? The wow of your love is seen and felt overflowing from your heart.” Or simple ways to pray for help like, “I need some help over here, God. Please come near.”
There’s also gentle ways to help mothers such as, “We both face challenges, but we can remind each other to be brave. We can choose to be full of faith in our days ahead rather than fearful.” Even if you’re the person that God is using to change the ways of an unhealthy past, there’s comfort in these pages waiting for you too like, “New traditions, habits, and attitudes can start with you.”
As a mother myself, my two daughters mean everything to me! They are grown now and building their own lives, but I have to admit, in my heart they will always be my baby girls. A parent is a parent for life, amen? The love and joy that comes with being a parent only strengthens and deepens with time! Motherhood is one of the greatest gifts God will ever give us and I hope to be able to steward my girls, and both our Son in Loves and G-Babies, in the way God would want me to!
I usually like to include the table of contents in my reviews but this book doesn’t have one. But I would love to share this excerpt here that I loved:
“As moms, we hope our children will always remember our love for them more than our impatience or anger. We look back at the years we kept after them, repeating “I love you,” trying to impress the words on their hearts and minds. And as the years progress, we want to tell them, “Every time I think of you, I give thanks for you.” It’s easy to love our children when they’re all snuggled up or have made it home before curfew or have called even when they didn’t have to. And sometimes we think that if we can just get a few more uplifting words in, they’ll remember those moments more than the times we lost it—when our tongues got tangled up with our minds and made a mess of our words—or the times we didn’t say a word and our silence met with their stare. No matter the situation, we can take great relief knowing that even when we fail, when our love has taken a back seat to our exhaustion and irritability, God loves our children perfectly—and he models that love for us so we can love our children better each day. We can ask for his patience, strength, and humility to seek forgiveness from our children when we need a fresh start. And we can be assured that God’s love multiplies. He helps us add on layers of love to our children’s lives when we voice how thankful we are for them and how they are helping us see his love through them. In this way our families experience how God’s love always expands.“
Isn’t that beautiful?
I Love You, Mom! contains the words from both author’s hearts that can be given to a mom (or someone who is a mother figure) that you cherish in your life!
