Armor of God

PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD, THAT YOU MAY BE
ABLE TO STAND AGAINST THE SCHEMES OF THE DEVIL.
EPHESIANS 6:11 ESV (Verse on Bible Hub)

Many times when I’ve said something about the devil, the person I was talking to would say they don’t want to give too much credit to him. While I agree with that to some extent, I also realize we must be aware the devil does exist. He has one goal and that is to either destroy us or cause enough damage to make us take our eyes off of God.

We must be disciplined and stay on guard. Our enemy the devil is prowling around
outside like a roaring lion, just waiting and hoping for a chance to devour someone.
1 Peter 5:8 (Verse on Bible Hub)

WE DO NOT FIGHT AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD

Armor of God

In Ephesians Paul tells us to be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.

Put on all (no trick word here … all means all) of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all (here it is again) strategies of the devil.

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Paul goes on to say, this is why we need to be head-to-toe covered in the full armor of God: so we can resist during these evil days and be fully prepared to stand our ground.

PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD

Yes, stand with truth banded around our waist, righteousness as our chest plate and feet protected in preparation to proclaim the good news of peace. Don’t forget to raise the shield of faith above all else, so you’ll be able to extinguish flaming spears hurled at you from the wicked one. Take also the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

This scripture reminds us of how very real our enemy (the devil) is. Although God does want us to be aware, He has no intention of us being ‘afraid’ of the devil for we have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by our testimony. – (Revelation 12:11)

Although God does want us to be aware, He has no intention of us being 'afraid' of the devil for we have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by our testimony. (Revelation 12:11) Click To Tweet

They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their
testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
Revelation 12:11 (Verse on Bible Hub)

Armor of God

The battle is real and we need to always be wearing God’s armor.

Yes, even when we go to bed at night!

Night is one of the devil’s favorite times to attack!

So we must keep the helmet of salvation on to protect our mind while we sleep.

Maybe, we could spend five minutes reading the word, and talking with God.

Sometimes the battle is so intense it takes all the energy we have just to crawl into bed.

Singing praises can bring comfort at these times. Also, quoting scriptures out loud can help.

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him.
Truly, He is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 62:5-6 (Passage on Bible Gateway)

But I will sing of Your strength, in the morning I will sing of Your love:
for You are my fortress, my refuge in time of trouble. You are my strength,
I sing praise to You; You God are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
Psalm 59:16-17 (Passage on Bible Gateway)

Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth.
Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy.
Philippians 4:8 (Verse on Bible Hub)

THE BATTLE IS REAL

People put their faith in many different things. I feel sad when they don’t know or have chosen to not believe God. How many times has your faith in Christ protected you? Can you even count them? I sure can’t. Our faith in Christ protects us from the flaming spears (fiery darts) the enemy hurls at us. I feel like I’m constantly holding up the shield of faith as the enemy hurls (throws with great force) hurtful words. In order to stand strong in faith, we must know the word.

Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings.
Psalm 17:8 (Verse on Bible Hub)

For the Lord is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.
Proverbs 3:26 (Verse on Bible Hub)

See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.
Isaiah 49:16 (Verse on Bible Hub)

PEACE BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING

We long for peace in our world, don’t we? We should strive for it to the best of our ability, but the only true peace we will ever find is in Jesus, Jehovah Shalom, the prince of peace. The world doesn’t understand this truth.

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that comes from the
Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because
they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes
judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human
judgments, for, who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct them?
But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:14-16 (Passage on Bible Gateway)

I love that last sentence!

We have the mind of Christ.

That is remarkable!

God’s peace will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
The peace that God gives is so great that we cannot understand it.
Philippians 4:7 (Verse on Bible Hub)

Your Word is a lamp unto my feet.
Psalm 119:105 (Verse on Bible Hub)

In John 16:33 Jesus says, I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (Verse on Bible Hub)

What an awesome promise!!

I’m grateful we have the Word to learn from and to give us continual hope.
Let us continue to tell of the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God bless,

    1. It’s too easy sometimes, isn’t it, Diana? God bless you!

  2. Great post and so true, the battle is real and we have to know how to fight and when to rest and let Him do it. Exodus 14:14. I am more convinced than ever that the Holy Spirit is that armor, and sometimes, like Saul’s it is too heavy and that when God takes over. we never defeat the enemy in our own power, even the though you can cast him out. The battle is real and it is the Lord’s. Thanks, Susan.

    1. So true Becky! I’m so thankful for the Holy Spirit. At times it’s hard to distinguish when and how I should fight and when I should rest and let God do it.

      1. I know that feeling, what is impossible for me isn’t for Him. Thanks, Susan.

    1. Oh my gosh! Right? It is too easy to get busy or feel let down and forget the battle rages on continuously.😔

  7. I can relate to the night being one of satan’s favorite times to attack! When I am in tune with God and His Word and focused on God, I find that I am much more able to win these battles and crush satan more easily, than if I’m not.

    1. Me too Patricia! I have to remember that if I want Him to remain in me, I must remain in Him.💗

  10. Yes I’ve had to rely soooo much on the armor of God many times. It’s not only a daily constant reminder to take up the cross but wearing the armor of protection as well. Great verses and reminders!

    1. Thank you Heather! 💗

  11. Such a pertinent reminder. Like you, I feel like I’m always having to hold up the shield of faith and quench every fiery dart of the enemy. I can relate to the enemy attacking more at night. I used to have nightmares really bad when I was young and my mom would tell me to “put on the head of salvation” i.e read the Bible and then put it under my pillow. The word of God is quick and powerful and I’m so thankful we can use the word and the armor of God to come out victorious against our enemy.

    1. Hi Miranda! I’m thankful for the Word and armor too and that God didn’t leave us to ourselves. 💗

  13. “How many times has your faith protected you?” Oh my. Can I count that high? And I probably won’t know until I get to heaven. Story after story goes through my mind. Even those times God protected me when I didn’t “deserve” protecting! Truly He loves us.

    1. You’re so right, Sheri! The times God’s protected me when I didn’t deserve it are too often and I feel His awesome love all the more. 💗💗

  15. We often forget we have weapons to fight the enemy. Many times I will flail around and then realize I don’t have to live that way. I take up the sword and fight!
