“Blessed is she who believed the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1:45 NIV

Blessed is She Who Believed …

Blessed is She Who BelievedIn Luke 1:26-38, God sent the angel Gabriel to the virgin Mary in Nazareth. The angel tells Mary, who was pledged to be married to Joseph, that she had found favor with God and she would conceive and give birth to Jesus, whose Kingdom would never end (vv 30-33). When Mary asked how this could be, the angel explained the Holy Spirit would come upon Mary and her baby would be called the Son of God.

Then the angel tells Mary that her cousin Elizabeth, who was said to be unable to conceive, was in her sixth month of pregnancy. “For no word from God will ever fail” (v 37).

Can you imagine being in Mary’s shoes in that moment? As startling as this encounter must have been, when Mary heard Gabriel say “No Word from God will ever fail” … she immediately responded with radical faith: “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her (vs 38).

I want Mary’s pure childlike faith, don’t you? To be able to take God at His word and immediately trust and surrender? As I was reading over this passage today, I realized that the reason I sometimes hesitate to take God at His word and immediately concede might be because I haven’t been trusting that His word will never fail me.

Many verses in Scripture confirm Gabriel’s declaration that no word from God will ever fail. Here are just a few …

  • Matt 24:35 – Heaven and earth will disappear, but My words will never disappear (NLT).
  • Ps 119:89 – Your Word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens (NIV).
  • Num 11:23 = Then the LORD said to Moses, “Has My arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!” (NLT)
  • Isa 40:8 – “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (ESV).
  • Isaiah 55:11 “So is My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (NIV).

Blessed is She Who BelievedGod’s words are sure and trustworthy. In the verse just before he declared the power of God’s word, Gabriel said: “Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month (Luke 1:36 NIV).”

She who was said to be unable to conceive?

I wonder: What have the Naysayers been speaking over you, my friend? What have they deemed would never come to pass in your life?

When God speaks and sets His plans into motion, He will stop at absolutely nothing to bring them to pass. The enemy could not stop the “Greatest Love Story” in all of history from manifesting in its complete perfection.

From Christ’s birth to the cross, Satan couldn’t stop God’s plan to redeem mankind.

He did this for you and for me. And today, He works to set His purposes and promises in motion in the redeemed lives of His Daughters, too.

Blessed is She Who BelievedSo once again: What words have others spoken over you? Words that declare you or your life will never amount to anything?

When God impregnates us with the seed of His Word, the misguided words of other people have zero power to stop His promises from birthing in our lives unless we let them. So it’s time to break up with any agreements we have made with the enemy and fully step into our identity and calling in Christ.

For NO word from God will ever fail in our lives! May we be as radical as Mary and literally take God at His Word today. Just as He created Mary for a purpose, you have been chosen for His special purpose, too.

When God whispers His God sized promises to us, it takes a certain something to rise up and receive it. A special trust and courage to respond, “God, I am Your servant … may Your Word to me be fulfilled.”

It also takes a brave defiance to abandon the worldly wisdom we’ve accumulated through the years. To hold tight to the promises of God, we must keep them sacred between Him and us.

When He whispers to us, we don’t need to run to all our friends to get their take on what we think He said. We don’t have to lay His promises out on the table for everyone to chew on and give their two cents worth. Though most people are well meaning, they really don’t know how to advise on something God didn’t talk to them about!

The Holy Spirit will help us to receive His promises and walk out His vision for us. It truly is HIS vision and HIS dream, not ours, so the enemy has no way to touch it if we would only believe and cooperate with His Spirit within us.

The Amplified Bible says: “And blessed [spiritually fortunate and favored by God] is she who believed and confidently trusted that there would be a fulfillment of the things that were spoken to her [by the angel sent] from the Lord.” Luke 1:45

Furthermore, the AMPC (Amplified Classic Edition) says we are “Happy and to be envied” when we believe. To me, that speaks volumes about us being filled with joy while becoming salt and light to those around us.

I want to be more like Mary and immediately take God’s Word and receive it for myself, how about you? So much so that I begin to make preparations for His promises even when I don’t understand what God is up to or how He will make it come to pass.

When farmers pray for rain, they express their belief that God will show up by preparing their fields to receive the rain they are praying for. Let’s begin preparing our fields in the new year.

Blessed is she who believed takes me back to a memory lane where I believed the Lord will fulfil one of my prayer request that was aligned with God’s will. I wished I continued that kind of brave faith these days . Glad I read this post and I am taking these words and pasted them onto the wall of my heart ” We are “Blessed” … “Beautiful” … “Accepted” … “Loved” … “Adopted” … “Precious” … “Chosen” … “Forgiven” … “Free” … “Redeemed”!”

  16. Donna, this is so good!! Luke 1:45 has always been meaningful for me but it’s a verse I usually think about near Christmas. I love that you have reminded me of it when it’s warm outside. The phrase “brave defiance against what we’ve been taught” is going to stick with me. Following Jesus certainly requires a lot of that!!
