The year was 2000 and it was the Christmas season.
I could not shake the insistence of the Holy Spirit to buy a gift for our garbage men.
These two public service men always came promptly on Thursday mornings and they always had a smile on their face and gentle demeanor.
I prayed and asked the Lord to guide me on what the gift should be.
“A wallet “ is what the Holy Spirit whispered into my spirit and mind.
The following Thursday, I waited in nervous apprehension for the men to come.
I was afraid they would be insulted or hurt that I would give them a Christmas gift.
On each shiny package, I had inscribed “Merry Christmas and may the Lord God bless you!”
As the truck rounded the circle that my house was on, I nervously met the two men in the street.
I awkwardly handed the gifts to them and waited for their reaction.
They smiled genuinely and somewhat bashfully opened the gifts.
Then strangely, one of the men began to cry.
I was so scared and confused, thinking I had insulted him.
The other gentleman spoke up and said…
”Miss Diane, there is no way you could have known this; but Ernest has been searching through all the garbage we have picked up today hoping someone would have thrown away a wallet. You gave us the most perfect gift.”
It was such a wonderful beginning to a friendship that not only blessed me but also my children.
They came for dinner on Christmas Eve and sang hymns with us as my daughter played the piano!
Many years ago…the God of The Most High gave us “The Perfect Gift.”
His Son, in the form of a baby.
•Matthew 1:21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
•Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
The Magi being led by the Star, came to the “Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshipped Him.
Then opening their treasures, they presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense , and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:11)
It was then that the tribute of giving gifts was first introduced to mankind to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ!
Jesus came into mankind as a human for one purpose only: To draw all men unto Himself and to bless us with guidance, unconditional love and ultimately eternal life. Before His death on the cross, He proclaimed His purpose.
•“Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour”. (John 12:27)
This Christmas season, we all want to give the most perfect gift to each of our friends and loved ones.
We do this because we want to show our love and adoration to the receiver.
Whether it is a wallet, a toy, or a card…it is meant to be given expecting nothing in return.
This Season, please pause and take a moment to thank The Most Holy God for the PERFECT gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.
On bended knee, give Him the reigns to your Heart!
He offers love, life, and peace that no human
or object on earth can ever fulfill.
His gift was, is, and forever will be, the most perfect and lasting gift of all!
Love, Diane Wilser
