” … I know you by name.” Exodus 33:17  (Verse on Bible Hub)

I absolutely love the Christmas story, don’t you?

It is one of the most beautiful stories in the bible. Young Mary being chosen to carry the reason for the season (Jesus) in her womb. What an honor! Without Jesus, there would be no true Christmas as we know it. I wonder, would Christmas even exist at all?

One of my favorite parts of the first Christmas story is when the angel Gabriel came to speak to Mary to tell her she had been chosen.

Luke 1:30 tells us that Gabriel said, “Do not be afraid, Mary.” He could have just said, “Don’t be afraid.” But instead, he called her by name. I don’t know about anyone else, but this fact makes it so much more personal to me.

How did Gabriel know her name? Because God knew her name …

In Exodus, we see where the Lord said to Moses, “I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor in My sight and I know you by name.” (Exodus 33:17 HCSB) He knew Moses by name and this scripture isn’t exclusive just for Moses. He knows our name as well!

Maybe you’re not feeling the Christmas Spirit this year but I encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus. He knows you by name.

He knows you by name

Even when the walls seem to be rapidly closing in, keep your eyes on Jesus. He knows you by name.

When you don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel yet, keep your eyes focused on Jesus. He knows you by name.

You are intimately known and loved by Jesus, my friend …

Does it feel like the waves of life are crashing in on you and you’re about to drown? Are your finances coming to an end? Have you lost your home? Has your one and only car quit for good? Is your health failing? Have you lost or soon going to lose a loved one?

Is your heart crushed under the weight of it all and you feel like you’re in the outer parts of a tornado being tossed around and around, having no choice but to just let it take you?

Dear one … take hold of Jesus’ hand, He knows you by name. And He doesn’t want you to be afraid …

Are you especially lonely this Christmas season? Hold on tight. Jesus knows YOU by name.

Does your heart long for complete, pure-unconditional love, but you’ve yet to experience it? Jesus is reaching out His hand and calling YOUR name.

Many of us have tried filling our hearts with love from others; parents, siblings, friends, spouses, children, grandchildren. Or with material things; more clothes, bigger car, bigger house, new furniture etc. Or maybe you try filling it with that glass or two of wine or with extramarital affairs, only to discover the pangs of loneliness still prevail.

For some the pangs are small and they can still function quite well. For others they are a little more predominant and guilt and shame have gripped their hearts. And for others, the pangs have ‘become’ their heartbeat. With every beat of the heart, they feel emptier and emptier, stuck, numb, and hopeless.

I know this sounds like a cliche’, but …. Jesus, IS truly the reason for Christmas.

He knows you by name.

Jesus knows you because He created you. He died for you and loves you unconditionally. He is the only one who can truly fill the empty void in your heart.

I’m not saying it will always be easy, because it’s not. It’s taken me some time, but I speak from experience now when I say I know He loves me. During the times my heart grieved so heavily, it was Jesus and His love for me that pulled me through.

I pray you will grab a hold of His hand and allow Him to love you the way He desires to. He’s right there. All you have to do is call on His name. The name of Jesus.💗

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16.
