God's forgiveness

IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST AND WILL
FORGIVE US OUR SINS AND PURIFY US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.
1 John 1:9 ❤ (Verse on Bible Hub)

ACCEPTING GOD’S FORGIVENESS

It’s mystifying how forgiveness works, isn’t it?

By not forgiving, (and many times it’s a process and a rather slow one at that), we actually bring more harm to ourselves!

I’ve experienced both bitterness and freedom from it.

The heaviness of bitterness, whether it’s against myself or another, is so overwhelmingly powerful.

It can send me into a tailspin of sadness and then I want to eat (mostly chocolate) and sleep all the time.

Forgiveness, on the other hand, is light and makes me feel like a bubble floating gently on the breeze, filled with His peace and joy.

God's forgiveness

Quite the contrast!

Although I much desire the latter over the former, I still fight with bitterness at times.

Some times I think, “Why can’t ‘they’ just apologize! That would make it so much easier.”

But God in His goodness never leaves me to my own ways of thinking and feeling!

He revealed to me the forgiveness I extend to others isn’t based on their apology, but in my heart where the Spirit resides. 💗

The wonderful thing is: Bitterness or lack of forgiveness doesn’t last in my heart as long as it use to. And for that, I’m extremely thankful.

We can feel the same way if we believe God hasn’t or can’t forgive us.

The weight of it is too hard to bear.

Thankfully, unlike us, God’s forgiveness is not a prolonged process. We do have to confess, but as soon as we do, His forgiveness is immediate!

Even if it doesn’t feel like it, it still very much so is.

However, our accepting it can be a process as well.💗

I pray you will begin to experience the forgiveness God desires to give you.

No more guilt and shame! ❤

Blessings,

  1. True, it doesn’t have to last long. I forgive but I do avoid certain things and people for my peace. Don’t wait for someone to ask, they may never.

  2. The argument once arose on my Facebook wall after I shared a graphic on forgiveness from Christian Today, I think. One young man insisted that forgiveness should be extended when people ask for it. I’m glad you touched this here: that it shouldn’t be withheld until the offender apologises.

  3. So true! Reminds me of Hebrews 12:14-15:

Pursue peace with all men, as well as holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. Be careful that no one falls short of the grace of God, so that no root of bitterness will spring up to cause trouble and defile many.

So nice to meet other Christian women writing about Scripture!
