21 Beautiful Bible Verses for Autumn …

21 Bible Verses for Autumn

Autumn is my favorite season. But living in Florida, it feels like we have endless summers here. Being transplanted Southerners, we really miss experiencing Autumn in all its fullness.

So every October, hubby and I escape to the Smoky Mountains and we love it up there! The crisp air, the hiking trails, the wildlife, the stunning mountain views and the red, orange and gold leaves.

Autumn is a season of change and transition and all of nature surrenders to it. I wish it was as easy for us humans to yield to God’s will. Creation trusts in its Maker and we should, too.

Reflecting back on this busy year, God has been talking to me alot about my need to ‘release’ before I’m able to ‘receive’ from Him. The Holy Spirit keeps whispering for me to not lean on my own understanding of things. He is leading me to loosen my grip on relationships and circumstances.

It takes a lot of trust to release people and circumstances into the hands of God, doesn’t it?

Why do we wrestle with surrendering and letting go? Fear of loss, lack, or missing out on something or someone? We sometimes forget that we can’t outgive God. The process of releasing or giving something away requires us to unclench our fists and expose our palms, which postures us to be able to receive from God. He can’t give us something if we are tight-fisted. When the Lord asks us to release (___you fill in the blank___), it’s because He has something even greater to put into our open hands.

All of Creation flows to the rhythm of God’s Grace …

Creatures big and small respond when it’s time to prepare for hibernation in the Fall. But they couldn’t settle down and rest if they were concerned about missing out on something. Anyone who has ever had a toddler knows what I mean. The poor child is crying and BEYOND tired but refuses to go to sleep because they are worried they will miss out on something. Can you imagine if all the creatures gave God an earful every Fall?

Hibernation is a part of God’s good plan. This period of inactivity reduces an animal’s body temperature and slows their metabolism way down. It helps them to conserve their energy so they can survive a season where food is scarce. If we disturbed a hibernating animal, it would probably kill it. God Himself will wake the trusting animals when the sun begins to warm the earth in the springtime. They trust in Him.

21 Bible Verses for Autumn

And what about all those trees that surrender their leaves like clockwork ever Fall? We can choose to see the beautiful leaves blanketing the earth as either dead or a catalyst for new growth, giving nourishment back to the soil in preparation for Spring. It’s all part of God’s good plan, too.

But what if a tree became fearful of change? What if it shook a branch at God and refused to release its grip? If the tree got its way, not only would its cycle of life be broken, but the weight of newly fallen snow would snap its branches in two. The tree instinctively knows it needs to release to receive. It trusts its Maker.

Reflecting on this process, what might you need to release in this season of life so you can receive God’s good plan for you?

Bad habits? Leaning on your own understanding? The clutter in your soul? Fear? Stinky attitudes? Toxic relationships?

Is God is asking you to release something (or someone) so you can find rest and renewal?

Or maybe you need to release your grip on an over-packed schedule so you can return to your first love (God)? When the Lord calls us to rest, it isn’t always because we just went through a tough season. The rest could be to conserve our energy in preparation for what is up ahead. If your opportunity to rest and re-charge is right now, will you overlook it and miss out on what the Lord wants to deposit into you?

21 Bible Verses for Autumn

Just like the bear that needs to conserve his energy, Jesus might be calling you to stop and rest right now so you will be strengthened in Him for tomorrow …

The Holy Spirit is ever leading and guiding us. We hear His whispers, but will we trust and heed His leading?

We all seek renewal, but a lack of surrender or release will never lead to restoration, healing or wholeness.

  6. Wow! I am so stunned… first of all, autumn is my FAVORITE time of year 🙂 Second, I have been struggling pretty intensely with letting some things go. And then I read down to where you mentioned “getting back to our first love”… that is EXACTLY what God spoke into my heart not long ago, and I actually did a private study on that phrase. Have been trying to do just that for a few months now. This is the confirmation I needed!! Thank you so much for sharing, and several of these verses will be soon attached to the wall over my desk 🙂
