God's Favor

“For those who find Me find life
and receive favor from the LORD.”
Proverbs 8:35 (Verse on Bible Hub)

At times when life is full of confusion and chaos, it’s easy to question God’s favor. What does having God’s favor look like and what do I do to get it?

Proverbs 8:35 tells us that those who find God find life and receive favor from the Lord.

God's Favor

Wow! Is it really that simple?

My health is declining … where is the favor?

My spouse is abandoning me … where is the favor?

Toxic words are constantly being spoken about me … where is the favor?

I’m surrounded by death, chaos and heartache … where is God’s favor??

None of my children are serving God … so where is the favor?

This last one grips my heart often.

Finding God’s favor …

At times when I focus on my circumstances, I get overwhelmed. My heart is heavy laden with the fact that none of my children or grandchildren are serving God at all. Even from a young age, all I wanted to do was to grow up, marry a Christian man and raise children who loved God with all their hearts.

That was the “happily ever after” I believed in and longed for. The problem was I didn’t know how to get it. I didn’t realize my focus needed to be completely on God and my relationship with him above all else.

Every time I feel the overwhelming sadness creeping up on me, I listen to the song, ‘The Blessing’ with Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes. God uses it to remind me that according to Numbers 6:24-26, he blesses me and keeps me; the Lord makes his face shine upon me and is gracious to me; the Lord turns his face towards me and gives me peace. If that isn’t favor, I don’t know what is.

Let’s look at the definition of favor …

God's Favor

It means approval, support, or liking for someone or something.

When I read ‘liking for someone’, I was reminded of the movie Shenandoah when Jimmy Stewart says to his future son-in-law, “Sam, I know you love Jenny, but do you like her?” (Anyone remember that movie? I’m showing my age now. Ha ha) At the time I had no idea what he was talking about because in my young, unexperienced mind, love was more important than like.

But as time does, throughout the years it showed me the truth of my thoughts when during a conversation I was having with a friend, I said, “Not only do I love my son because he’s my son. I like him too.” And just like that, I understood! So knowing God likes me as well as He loves me means the world to me.

Applying God’s favor …

I’m continuously learning about His favor and applying it to smaller areas of my life as well.

For instance, I was driving home one day and was about to approach a busy highway without a stop light. Knowing it would be nearly impossible to get off the side road I was on, I said, “God, does having Your favor mean I have it in this situation as well? Can I call on that favor and ask that You clear traffic for Me?”

I really wasn’t that surprised, but definitely filled with a sense of love and approval, when I reached the highway and there were no cars. And I mean NO cars! That’s my God.💗 This has happened several times at different intersections. I live in Montana where there are many roads like this that I travel on, so I’m calling on His favor in this area a lot. Lol

Now, I thank Him ahead of time for his favor in all areas of my life: garbage not being too heavy for me to carry at work as well as approaching highways.

I don’t want to misrepresent anything here. I don’t always get what I want.

But I have learned this …

Although none of my children or grandchildren serve God (and even though it breaks my heart 💔), and sometimes I do have to wait for traffic to go by to get onto the highway, I KNOW I am liked, supported by, and have God’s approval. (favor)

I rest in that truth while I wait.

Whether it’s waiting on traffic and/or on God to get ahold of my lineages’ hearts, I indeed do have God’s favor. I am grateful for this breakthrough. And I pray you find encouragement, strength and boldness from this; boldness to approach God with everything, strength to continue moving forward, and encouragement to lighten the load. Ask God where you can begin applying His favor in your life.

Here are a few scriptures on God’s favor.

God's Favor

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful
God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of
those who love him and keep his commandments.”
Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV (Verse on Bible Hub)

“But showing love to a thousand generations of
those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
Exodus 20:6 NIV (Verse on Bible Hub)

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine
upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward
you and give you peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26 NIV (Passage on Bible Gateway)

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work
of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands.”
Psalms 90:17 NIV (Verse on Bible Hub)

We can love people but not be able to hang around them (or be in their presence) for various reasons. I know God loves me but when I learn He likes me too … that says to my heart that He doesn’t just love me from afar, but enjoys being in my presence and interacting with me.

That says SO much to me. Thank you sweet friend … ❤

    1. You described that so wonderfully, Donna! I love that God doesn’t just love me from afar, but personally interacts with me.💗💗
