“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,” Romans 8:1

Jesus Took our Condemnation …

Are you tired of allowing others to condemn you for bad choices you’ve made in the past?

God truly does tailer make scripture for each of us to address the struggles we are dealing with in any given moment.  My morning regimen consists of getting up to read a couple of plans I’m following in the You Version Bible App and pausing throughout to allow the Spirit to teach, guide, speak, and minister to me.

Woman jumping surrounded by mountainsBut this particular morning, Christmas morning of 2022, I was tired and decided to just stay lying in bed and listen to someone preach on YouTube instead. The Spirit of the Lord led me to Focus on The Family with Levi Luskeo. They were discussing how Godly thinking can transform your life.

At one point in the conversation, Jim Daly mentioned how the enemy loves to use fear, guilt and condemnation against us. This is nothing new for most of us, right? But boy did that word condemnation grab my heart and as the Holy Spirit often does, He led me to pause long enough to write what I felt the Lord was teaching me.

I have been controlled by fear all my life. I’m not even sure what life without fear, unhealthy fear, even looks like. Fear kept me from stepping out many times and in many ways.

One of those ways was keeping me from buying my own home. Convinced I would never be able to keep up the payments and therefore lose it, I chose not to even try.  And I have paid the price over and over and over again, as the fear led to condemnation, because someone felt the need to remind me that it was my fault. Of course, I already knew this; condemnation never lets us forget.

This time, though, as I cried out to God, He let me know that because fear was instilled in me pretty much from birth, it really wasn’t my fault. Fear was all I knew, so fear was what I lived.

Two days after Christmas, God led me to 2 Corinthians 3:17:

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Cor 3:17

Once again, I was astonished as this truth powerfully yet gently made its way into my heart. I know the Spirit of the Lord lives in me but for the first time realized that because of this, I have freedom. I have freedom from every negative thought, and I’ve had the freedom all along. I just didn’t know how to enter into this truth.

Woman surrounded by mountainsYou know how you’ve read that one scripture repeatedly, but they were just words on a page until the Holy Spirit opened your spiritual eyes to the truth of it? That’s what happened with this verse on this particular day; it was tailor made just for me. That’s how much our God loves us.

So, fear was all I knew until God opened my eyes to this truth. Now that I understand it, I am responsible to walk in my freedom.

Although fear and condemnation do still try to come against me, I now have 2 Corinthians 3:17 to throw back at the enemy and I throw it hard! I say out loud with a very assured voice, “The Spirit of the Lord lives in me, so I am free from fear and condemnation!” I throw it at the enemy as many times in a day as he tries to trip me up with the lies.

By the way, do you know what condemnation means? It’s the act of condemning. Condemn means to express an unfavorable or adverse judgement on; indicate strong disapproval of, according to Dictionary.com.

If you have people in your life who are repeatedly condemning you, or perhaps you’re condemning yourself, that’s a lot of weight for your soul to carry. It can lead to sadness, depression, weight gain, despondency, or even physical sickness.

Because condemnation comes from the enemy, it’s only goal is to steal, kill and destroy you. But Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly, (John 10:10) even more abundantly than you can even think or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) That’s our God.

It’s my prayer that anyone who is bound by condemnation will drink in these truths:

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,” Romans 8:1

“The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17.

If you’re a follower of Christ, you are covered by these promises. These truths can be difficult to understand on our own, but the Holy Spirit helps us first by revealing the truths and planting them deep in the heart and then giving us the strength to walk them out.

We can be excited and look forward to where God will lead us now as we walk out our freedom from the negative unhealthy thought patterns that have controlled our lives. Thank you, Jesus!

If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, we would love to pray with you. It’s our desire that every woman knows and experiences the ultimate love of God, which includes freedom from condemnation. 💗

Father God, I lift up those who are still living in condemnation. I ask that the Holy Spirit enlighten the eyes of their understanding of the truth that they are already set free, so they too can live in freedom, not only from condemnation, but all unhealthy strongholds that keep them stuck in the place they are in. Father, set them free from fear, shame, guilt, bitterness, hatred, jealousy, envy, unrighteous anger, unworthiness and manipulation as well. I ask this in Jesus’ precious name, amen. Amen.

God bless,

  1. Amen! This is such powerful truth that we need to remember! The enemy keeps wanting us to believe that we are still condemned but he can take that up with our Heavenly Father! 🙏❤️

    1. Exactly!! The enemy may be the god, with a little g, of this world, but he still has to bow down to El Elyon, the Most High God. And I am so grateful for this.
