“For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 CSB

Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed | Matthew 17:20 …

I love the Word of God and the privilege we have to access it and the Lord Himself any time we need to, don’t you?

Thank you, Jesus, for this privilege!

And I love Matthew 17:20 … such a powerful Verse, isn’t it?

A few years back, I participated in an online Bible Study where we read Nicki Koziarz’ powerful book, Flooded.

And I remember watching a video from her in which her words made a lot of sense to me. So I wrote them down:

“At such a time as this, with all of the things that are going on in our world right now, God isn’t looking for the all powerful, ‘I’m going to move this mountain!!’ But instead He’s looking for those who have even the smallest amount of faith.”

The smallest amount of faith for what?

The faith to believe, right?

To believe, first and foremost, in Jesus and what He did for us on the Cross.

Next, to believe the Holy Spirit inside of us will give us the power to do whatever it is that He’s called us to do.

Then, to believe that the Lord can take our tiny little mustard seed sized faith to bring big God sized results into our lives … absolutely nothing is impossible with Him!

In the original Greek, the word faith in Matthew 17:20 is πίστιν (pistin), which means: Faith, belief, trust, confidence; fidelity, faithfulness.

Faith is belief, trust, confidence, fidelity and faithfulness in Christ. I want that, don’t you?

How God wants us to see our faith …

As time goes by, I’m realizing more and more that it is NOT the size of my faith that matters but Who I put my faith in!

I also understand better that God does not want us to doubt ourselves and our faith any more than we might doubt Him.

When we doubt ourselves, we become paralyzed and can’t move forward as we would want to. Or maybe not even at all.

I’ve definitely been guilty of this way too many times but I don’t want to give in to this anymore. How about you?

I remember a plan I once followed in the You Version Bible App, called, ‘Permission to Shine.’ It was about letting the light of Jesus shine through us. And in my quiet time, I asked God to help me get out of the way so His Spirit can shine God and Jesus through me at all times.

I know I still try to do things in my own power. I struggle with thoughts like, ‘What do I do and what does God do? Where do I end and He begins? Where do I let go and what do I hold onto?”

Do you struggle with this?

As I talked with God, though, I felt his peace cover me like a warm blanket on a cold day. I’m excited because I truly believe God is going to breathe new life into this verse and into the mustard seed faith each one of us has inside of us.

In her book, Nicki shared that Mustard-seed faith isn’t a quantity of faith; it’s a quality of faith. And Jesus partners with people who have this tiny spark of faith. If planted right, this seed can become something way beyond who we are. To the ones who are willing to look at hard situations and say, “With God, it’s possible.”

I am so ready to let Jesus set me free from doubting myself! How about you? I know that it will be a process, so let the process begin. ❤️

Let’s pray together …

Abba Father, Thank you for continuously being a part of our lives. I might not really know the woman who is reading this right now but You do. You know us so intimately and personally because not only did you create us, you created us uniquely. I love that so much, God! I ask You to be with us as we go forward. Draw us closer to You, God. Help us to remember that it’s not about how big our faith is but Who we put our faith in. That’s what really matters!

In Jesus name, amen. ❤️
