Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed | Matthew 17:20

“For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size
of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain,
‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.
Nothing will be impossible for you.”

I love the Word of God! I love the privilege we have to access it and God Himself any time we need them, don’t you? Thank you Jesus!

Faith the Size of a Mustard Seed | Matthew 17:20

At Proverbs 31 Ministries Online Bible Studies, we are currently studying Nicki Koziarz’ new book, “Flooded: The Five Best Decisions to Make When Life is Hard and Doubt is Rising.” While watching one of her study videos, Nicki said something that made a lot of sense to me. She said:

“As such a time as this, with all of the things that are going on in our world right now, God isn’t looking for the all powerful, ‘I’m going to move this mountain!!’ But instead He’s looking for those who have even the smallest amount of faith.”

The smallest amount of faith for what?

To believe, right?

To believe, first and foremost, in Jesus and what he did for us. Believe the Holy Spirit lives in us, giving us the power to do whatever it is He has called us to do. (Nothing’s impossible) To believe the tiny mustard seed of faith we have can bring about big results concerning our lives and the doubt we can struggle with at times.

“‘If you can?'” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
Mark 9:23 NIV (Read full chapter)

As time goes by I’m seeing that Jesus doesn’t want us to doubt ourselves any more than we might doubt him. When we doubt ourselves, we become paralyzed and can’t move as easily as we want to. Or maybe not even at all. I’ve definitely been guilty of this way too many times and I don’t want to give into it anymore.

The plan I’m following right now in the You Version Bible App is called, ‘Permission to Shine.’ It’s about letting the light of Jesus shine through.

In my quiet time this morning, I asked God to help me get out of the way so the Spirit can shine God and Jesus through me at all times. I know I still try to do things in my own power.

I wrestle with thoughts like, ‘What do I do and what does God do? Where do I begin and He ends? Where do I let go and what do I hold onto?’ The struggle is so real it exhausts me! Do any of you battle with this?

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13 NKJV (Read full chapter)

As I talked with God, though, I felt His peace cover me like a warm blanket on a cold day. And I knew He was going to use the bible study I’m involved in, His word and the ladies in my group in a powerful way in my life.

I’m excited because I truly believe God is going to breathe new life into this verse and into the mustard seed of faith each of us has inside of us.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1 NIV (Read full chapter)

In her book, Flooded, Nicki shares that mustard-seed faith isn’t a quantity of faith; it’s a quality of faith. And Jesus partners with people who have this tiny spark of faith! AND, if planted right, that seed can become something way beyond who they are. The ones who are willing to look at hard situations and say, “With God it’s possible.”

I love that!! And I’m so ready to let Jesus set me free from doubting myself! I understand it’s a process, so let the process begin.

Abba Father,

Thank You for continuously being involved in our lives. You know us so intimately and personally because not only did You create us, You created us uniquely. I love that so much, God! I ask You be with us as we go forward in our relationship with You and allow the tiny mustard-seed of faith to do it’s work. Help us remember that we don’t have to move the entire mountain, but we can move one rock at a time and it’s still faith to You. And that’s what really matters the most anyway. Thank You!

In Jesus name, Amen.

Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like?
What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed,
which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and
became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”
