“Let us approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we
may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 ❤ (Verse on Bible Hub)

BY HIS GRACE

As I sat here, sipping my tea, I thought about God’s Grace and how many times He has generously extended it to me. Well, I was just overcome with awe.

What comes to your mind when you hear the word GRACE?

Elegance?
A prayer before or after a meal?
An attractive quality?
Favor or goodwill?
Moral strength?

Perhaps you know someone named Grace and she comes to mind when you hear the word grace.

The grace I’d like to share about today is the freely given, unmerited (undeserved) favor of GOD.

Here are just a few promises about God’s Grace:

(1) By His Grace we have a free gift …

“For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 (Passage on Bible Gateway)

(2) By His Grace we are justified (made guiltless) …

“We are justified freely by His grace through
the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
Romans 3:24 (Verse on Bible Hub)

(3) By His Grace we are accepted …

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may
receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 (Verse on Bible Hub)

I love the word ‘confidence’ in this verse.

Confidence is a word the Lord gave me to pursue. It means the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.

We all fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:24) which means we all sin, but we can still approach God’s throne of grace with confidence and a firm trust to talk to Him about anything. This is because it’s by His grace that we have been saved. God won’t turn us away because of our mistakes.

I realize this can be hard to understand and accept. Maybe you were raised by parents, or another adult, who extended no grace at all to you. Maybe they didn’t give you the unconditional love you longed for.

But God did and He still does.

“I do not understand the mystery of grace- only that it meets
us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.”
Ann Lamott

So many times I’ve said to God, “I don’t deserve to stand before you and talk to you.” One day when I was writing about this to a friend, it hit me and I saw the truth that I was writing.

I didn’t deserve His Grace and I certainly don’t deserve to approach His throne. BUT it’s not about me. It’s about Jesus and what HE did for me.

If I think I don’t deserve to stand before God because I’ve made a mistake (no matter how big or small it may be), I fall into the trap of assuming I can come before him on my own merit when I haven’t done anything wrong. I try to take the glory and grace from him and put it on myself as if I’ve earned it.

God's Grace

I ‘can’ come boldly and confidently into the Father’s presence because I am covered by the blood of His Son, Jesus.

That is the ONLY reason I can come with confidence before God. It has absolutely nothing to do with me!

I can never lose this grace and favor because I never earned it in the first place. God sees the righteousness of his Son when He looks at me.

I am ever so grateful that He always does because I fall short all the time.

When I repent, I can move forward without being weighed down by guilt and shame, both of which have already stolen enough from me in my lifetime.

Some times I have to call on His grace all day long. It seems so much harder to forgive ourselves than it is for God to forgive us, isn’t it?

“Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God’s grace.
And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God’s grace.”
Jerry Bridges

(4) By His Grace our sins are covered. We are forgiven.

“Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the
one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit there is no deceit.”
Psalm 32:1-2 (Passage on Bible Gateway)

Fortunately, God doesn't keep score the way we humans do. If He did, there wouldn't be one of us still standing. ~ Dr. Tim Kimmel and Darcy Kimmel Click To Tweet

(5) By His Grace, He no longer counts our sins against us.

“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that
in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 (Verse on Bible Hub)

We find grace when we pursue the Father in personal time of prayer and devotion.

I love when Paul Tripp Ministries said, “If you want to get wet with the grace of God, stand under a fountain and trust that the Lord will send water.”

God's Grace

There are many verses on grace in the Word of God. I’d like to encourage you to search and personally ask God to give you a verse. His Word is His promise to you and you can stand boldly and confidently on it. His Word can be firmly trusted.

Grace is a gift and promise to anyone who has Jesus. It isn’t about the freedom to sin more. It’s about the freedom to not be weighed down by guilt and shame any longer.

Let go and let Jesus love you the way He always intended.

He loves you just the way you are. This day. This moment. This very second.

Maybe you haven’t experienced this wonderful gift of grace from God because you haven’t accepted Christ as your Savior. One of the most awesome things about God is that He is always there. He’s waiting patiently and with much love for you to do just that. He longs to have a relationship with you.

Come pray with me …

“Father God, I confess that I am a sinner and the only way to have a relationship with You is through Jesus. I believe and accept that Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and He died on the cross, and shed His blood for my sins. Therefore, He has conquered death by coming back to life so that I will not perish but have everlasting life. I ask Jesus to come into my heart and to be the Lord and Savior of my life. In Jesus name Amen.”

If you have genuinely repented and asked Jesus into your life, we believe you have been saved and your name is written in the Book of Life. Hallelujah!! Please let us know so we can continue to pray for you. Also, find a body of believers to fellowship with and spend time talking to God and reading the Word.

Maybe you’re on the other side of that and you’ve heard the word grace so often it has lost it’s importance to you. Ask the Holy Spirit to refresh His grace in your life. Ask Him to give you a verse on grace and then hold onto that promise. We are forgiven and free in Christ.

Let’s also remember to give grace to others.

“Here’s one way I can know that I’ve forgotten the gospel of grace:
When your sin bothers me more than my own.”
Tullian Tchividjian

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the grace You have given and shown me so many times. Thank You for giving your Son. Thank you, Jesus, for willingly giving Your life for us to wash away our sins.

God, I ask that You make Yourself and the truth of Your grace real to anyone who has accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior today. I ask that You breathe new life into the grace You have given to those of us who have unknowingly let it lose its importance in our lives. Remind us to give grace to others the way You have given it to us. I ask it in Jesus name, Amen.

Love,

  20. Yes! So good friend. Grace I feel is often a word thrown around without feeling the weight of what it means, as you stated here, “Grace is a gift and promise to anyone who has Jesus. It isn’t about the freedom to sin more. It’s about the freedom to not be weighed down by guilt and shame any longer.” Praying this post reminds someone of it today!

    1. God bless you Amy!💗

  21. As a Christian I feel that anytime grace is the topic of a conversation or in this case a written word, it is encouraging to the heart. You can’t truly ponder on grace and not be filled with a sense of gratefulness! I named my last child Grace as her middle name because I had gotten off of God’s paths, had been divorced and re-married, then began seeking God again. She was my 5th biological child that I never dreamed would happen for various reasons but I truly felt she was a reminder of God’s marvelous Grace upon Grace!

    1. April, this is so beautiful! I know what it’s like to get off of the path of God and be reunited with Him once again. It’s very indescribable. His grace. His love. I understand them like never before and at the same time know I have so much more to learn about them.💗

  22. This is a beautiful reminder! I love the thought of how the word grace makes us feel! That’s so true! We can all picture what we assume someone named Grace to be like! Lovely and gentle!

    1. Thank you Erin! God’s grace is lovely and gentle too, isn’t it?💗

  23. I love this post! Having the right understanding of grace is so important and something believers of any stage need to be reminded of daily!
Thank you Lord for your abounding grace!

    1. Thank you, Desiree! I need to be reminded daily of His grace and so grateful He does and for the many different avenues He chooses to use.💗

  24. What an amazing post!! I never quite thought of it that way but it’s true…if we feel like we are not worthy to come before Him when we have made mistakes it assumes we feel we have the right in and of ourselves to come before Him if we feel we haven’t done wrong. That is putting it in our hands and our own works rather than relying on His grace!

    1. Thank you, Diane! There’s always new things to learn about His grace and I love that. 💗

  25. I love this post Susan! I especially love when you said let go and let Jesus love me the way He intended! I need to do that more!! Blessings to you sweet friend! 😘❤

    1. I still need to also, Donna. Thank you! Blessings to you too!!💗💗

  26. The word elegance caught my eye, because that is a friend’s life theme. She is full of grace. I look forward to sharing this with her. Thanks!

    1. That’s so beautiful, Sheri! Your friend is blessed to have you in her life.💗

  27. I want to show grace to all but some people make it hard …. I want Him in my heart.. In my mind… With my faith in Him gives me peace in knowing he is caring for and loving me even when I want to just give up…

    1. You’re right Vickie, showing grace toward some people is a challenge. Thankfully, that’s where grace comes in. It covers them, you, me, and everyone in between. It is peaceful knowing that He loves us through those hard times when we want to give up. That’s when He carries us. <3

  28. I thank our Lord for His forgiving, loving love for us. There are many days that I feel I am unworthy of his love but I know He loves me regardless.

    1. I feel unworthy of His love too Sherry, but He is changing the way I feel. He is bringing me to the place of understanding that it’s not about being unworthy or worthy, but just accepting that it’s a part of who He is. He loves us. There’s no other love like it.
