My Cup Runs Over | Psalm 23:5

My cup runs over … Psalm 23:5 NKJV

This morning, while I was thanking Jesus and praying through each section of Psalm 23, the phrase my cup runs over became such a focal point for me. I could see myself sitting at the table with Jesus, like Mephibosheth did with David in 2 Samuel 9:11. After we sat there looking into each other’s eyes, Jesus got up and came over to me.

He began pouring into my cup.

I praised Him as He reminded me, without saying a single word, of each particular strength He has poured into my life.

And even more personally … into me.

My cup (my heart, my life) runs over with all the goodness the Lord has to offer me. It runs over with grace, mercy, love, kindness, goodness, forgiveness, compassion, patience, peace, contentment and satisfaction.

My cup runs over with love … therefore:

  • I am patient.
    I am kind.
My Cup Runs Over | Psalm 23:5I do not envy.
    I do not boast.
    I am not proud.
    I do not dishonor others.
    I am not self seeking.
    I am not easily angered.
I keep no record of wrong.
I do not delight in evil.
    I rejoice with the truth.
    I always protect.
    I always trust.
    I always hope.
    I always persevere.
    1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

This doesn’t happen because ‘I’ am love.

No, God IS love, but because His Spirit lives in me, so do all these attributes. Each one can flow freely, totally uninhibited, from ME, therefore ministering to and blessing those around me like Jesus has called me to do.

I understand that because I live in human form it’s not always going to be easy, but I know this is a new strategy the Lord has given me to stand firmly whenever the enemy is coming full force against me.

Jesus will remind me of this day and these words He’s given me.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, these attributes live in you as well. My prayer is that you will believe and stand on these truths for yourself. Even if you don’t feel like it at the moment. Maybe right now, you are so angry with someone you’d rather scream and yell at them and I completely understand that! This writing comes a day after the enemy has chosen a certain person to violate me by intruding on my privacy in an unethical way. Yesterday I was angry! Then I was numb.

Today, I have just been sad … really really sad, but one thing remains the same:

I know Jesus is in this with me. He reminds me of who I am in Him.

My Cup Runs Over | Psalm 23:5So, despite my emotions, these truths help keep me steady and for that I am very grateful. It’s vital that we not get confused about who the real enemy is and that is Satan not people.

Next time you are angry, just TRY this; go into another room by yourself and say out loud, “I am not easily angered! Because Jesus’ love lives in me, I am not easily angered.” Repeat it as many times as you need to regain control over your emotions. Or if you prefer or don’t have the option to walk away, say it in your mind. The strength and peace won’t come because of the way you choose to say it, out loud or quietly to yourself. But in whether you believe it or not.

This can be applied to any situation.

Do you have road rage? You can repeat several of these statements. “I do not dishonor others. I am not self seeking. I am not easily angered.”

What about having to wait in line? I am patient. I am kind.

I’m not saying not to be true to your emotions or to deny them. Jesus gave us emotions and there is a place for them. If you are grieving the loss of someone, your emotions will be all over. I would encourage you to be patient with yourself and let time do its restoration.

Remember that your cup runs over with all the goodness of Jesus because He never quits pouring into you. God be with you and bless you tremendously today. He sees you and loves you all. the. time.

God bless you …💗
